Jodhpur

Jodhpur is a city in the Thar Dessert of the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan often referred as “Blue City” because of the blue colors that decorate many of the houses in the old city area.

Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by RaoJodha, a Rajput Chief of Rathore Clan. The city is known to be built in place of the ancient capital, Mandore of the state of Manwar. Hence, the people of Jodhpur and surrounding areas are commonly known as Marwaris. During the British Raj, the state of Jodhpur had the largest land area of any in the Rajputana.

Jodhpur and its people benefited from the exposure to the wider world as new styles of art and architecture made their appearance and opportunities opened up for local tradesmen to make their mark across northern India. Its merchants, the Marwari’s, flourished and came to occupy a position of dominance in trade across India.

Jodhpur, also known as the Gateway of Thar Dessert, is a popular tourist destination surrounded by a huge fortress wall with bastion and striking blue building. Jodhpur city has many beautiful palaces and forts such as Mehrangarh Fort, JaswantThada, UmaidBhavan Palace and Raika Bag Palace. Generally, the climate of Jodhpur is hot, dry and sunny. In summer, the maximum temperature is around 42 deg and the minimum temperature is around 37 deg C. In winters, the maximum temperature is around 27.5 deg C and the minimum temperature is around 15.5 deg C. Jodhpur is bright and sunny throughout the year
