Udaipur

Udaipur, a former capital Mewar Kingdom is also known as “City of Lakes”. Back in 1829, the city also got a tag of most Romantic spot by the first political agent of the region of East India Company.

It was founded in 1553 by Maharaja Udai Singh II as he shifted his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur. Being a mountainous region and unsuitable for heavily armored Mughal Horses, Udaipur remained safe from Mughal Influence. It remained capital until 1818, the year it became British Princely State.

Udaipur is located in a valley and is surrounded by lakes. The beautiful city embellishes itself with Fort, Palaces and Temples. It justifies all names offered to its charm from “Kashmir of Rajasthan” to “Jewel of Mewar” to “Venice of East”. Udaipur is among one of the most enchanting and memorable tourist destination.

Adore the tranquility of boat rides on the lake, the bustle and colour of ancient bazaars and lively art scenes. The city palace of Udaipur is the largest royal palace in all of the Rajasthan. Housed in the Fateh Prakash Palace, Crystal gallery is hailed as the largest private collection of crystal in the World. Enjoy the vintage and classic car collection of vehicles that belonged to Maharanas of Mewar. All the vehicles are in working condition despite few of them being more than 70 years old.

Udaipur has a tropical climate and being located in desert lands climate and weather is usually hot. The hot season lasts from April – June and cool season lasts from December – February. Even in January, the coldest month, the days are bright sunny and warm with maximum temperature around 28.3oC.

Udaipur’s winter climate is the most appealing time to visit. Mid-September to late March is the time when tourist arrives in large numbers.
